Darkened Mazes

January 28, 2019

Dear friend of the shadows,

Share your hidden graces,

And softly sing

From the darkened mazes.

Friend of the celestial shadows,

Share your magic graces,

And sing for me

From the darkened mazes.

Many lonely years were

Spent wandering the haze,

But no song rang

From meadows or verdant ways.

Maidens softly sang on

Blooming field and glade,

But my soul stole

Where both sun and moon fade.

In the night I often hear

The sound of lonely fays

Gently sighing,

From the darkened mazes.

Then my soul forgets the world,

Like the once sad nightingale

Who suddenly sings,

From the darkened mazes.

The soul’s wandering ceases

Like a pilgrim who joyfully gazes

On the pale moon

Above the darkened mazes.

Like the nightingale's song

Under the stars’ soft gazes,

As it takes its flight

From the darkened mazes.

So my soul forgets the world,

Under the moon’s clairvoyance,

As she casts a veil

On love and days' annoyance.

And then music like a nightingale’s,

With heavenly graces,

Quietly streams

From the darkened mazes.
